A new trial for street cleaning is getting underway in Brescia’s historic centre, introducing an innovative model of urban maintenance. Thanks to the use of Dulevo sweepers fitted with high-pressure water jets, cleaning operations can be carried out even where cars are parked, thereby eliminating the need for the traditional no-parking restrictions during the service in most cases.
The new system will come into operation on 18 March with an initial pilot phase in the Brescia Antica district and will gradually extend to other areas of the historic centre. In total, the project will cover 72 km of routes and 169 streets, freeing up around 15 km of parking spaces from the no-parking restriction during cleaning.
How the new system works
The method introduces a more efficient cleaning approach than the traditional model. Dulevo sweepers are equipped with a high-pressure lance operated by a ground-based operator, connected to the machine via an arm, which allows access even to the spaces beneath parked vehicles. In this way, it is possible to clean the carriageway and pavements without requiring cars to be moved.
This solution simplifies the urban cleaning service and improves the effectiveness of operations even in the densest and most complex areas of historic city centres.
A tangible benefit for citizens and cities
The innovation brings significant benefits both from an operational perspective and for residents. In 2025 alone, 14,479 fines were issued in Brescia for failure to comply with the no-parking ban during street cleaning. The new system aims to drastically reduce this problem.
The Dulevo mechanical suction technology used is also equipped with an advanced filtration system capable of retaining up to 99% of fine dust, helping to limit the dispersion of particulate matter during cleaning operations.
For Dulevo, participating in projects of this kind means making a tangible contribution to the evolution of urban cleaning services, by developing technological solutions that improve the efficiency of operations and the quality of life in cities.
